Of the one-time tremendous wealth of old Armenian treasurable manuscripts about twenty-five thousand volumes have only survived and reached us; they throw broad light on the history and culture of the Armenian people and those of other nations. It was precisely this diversity and richness of content of old Armenian manuscripts that drew the attention of Armenian and foreign specialists. Exceptional interest was aroused not only around the multi-volume hand-written parchments but also the magnificent miniatures adorning the writings.
Armenian miniature paintings, that have justly won universal recognition in our days, are highly appreciated for their unparalleled skill of execution and the peculiar reproduction of the historical reality of the past.
